Paul Graham - Beyond Caring |
Opening September 14 and running until December 9, as a fitting close to the British season at Le Bal, the gallery presents the work of Paul Graham. The show bookends Graham's career with, from the beginning, Beyond Caring (1984 - 85) and his current work The Present (2011). The first is a reflection of Britain under the Thatcher regime, the last, part three the American trilogy initiated with American Night (1998-2002) and shimmer of possibility (2004-2006). The Present is exposed for the first time in France.
I have not seen the prints from The Present series but I'm told they are absolutely stunning. And apart from anything else Graham has yet again, invented a new and totally innovative visual language.
Paul Graham is a major voice in contemporary photography and has been recognized with various retrospectives, among them Whitechapel Gallery, London and the Museum Folkwang, Essen. Graham received the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize in 2009 and the Foundation Hasselblad Award in 2012.
There will be a discussion between Paul Graham and curator Thomas Weski on Saturday September 15 at 11am. You can go to the Le Bal site HERE.
